Quintessentially, the global luxury lifestyle group, presents its Summer Arts Party - an evening of inspiring performance art, music, magnums of Perrier-Jouët champagne and canapés on Wednesday 9th July at Philips de Pury Gallery
Hosted by Quintessentially's co-founders Aaron Simpson and Ben Elliot, the Summer Arts Party is set to be one of the highlights of the London summer social season bringing together an eclectic mix of well-known faces from the worlds of art, fashion, society, film and music. Expected guests include Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Martin Creed, Idris Khan and Annie Morris, Mark Ronson and Daisy Lowe, Sophie Dahl, Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott, Alice Temperley, Bill Nighy, Rosamund Pike, Laura Bailey and many more.
The summer cocktail party will take place at the Philips de Pury Gallery in Victoria, a unique conversion from a 1880s post office that has created a stunning contemporary space. The gallery will provide the perfect backdrop for an evening of distinctive and radically inspiring performance art, curated by Nick Hackworth, comprising five artists engaged in a series of different performances. Co-hosts, boutique Champagne House Perrier-Jouët, the preferred champagne of the art world, will ensure the evening flows by providing over 120 magnums of their Grand Brut Champagne. The party also formally marks the start of an exciting partnership between the Champagne House and Quintessentailly.
The program of performances, entitled "The Sleep of Reason produces Monsters", is inspired by Plate 43 of Goya's series of etchings Los Caprichos which depicts a sleeping scholar whose visible dream is populated by monsters. The famous image is an allegorical warning of what happens when the forces of reason and order relax their hold on human society. The artists have responded with the creation of performances that deal with sleep, dreaming, memory, ghosts, spirits and horror.
Artists on the night include Eloise Fornieles, who creates spectacular installations in which audience members individually interact with the artist. For this event, Fornieles will reprise her celebrated performance 'Senesence', in which she sleeps in a dreamlike, aesthetic environment whilst the audience is invited to influence her dreams. Julian Arnold, who creates 'watched', non-interactive performances, will perform cross-dressed, to channel the spirit of a dead Blues singer, Kirstie Macleod whose dreaming princess will lie, recumbent on a bed formed by a vast, impossible dress in which contains sign and dreams sown into its material form, David Birkin who will continue his acclaimed 'Confessions' series in which he will invite members of the audience to enter a closed, sound proof space and confess secrets to a camera and Edward Fornieles whose range of pranks, readings and action will entertain the audience with dark humor and punky energy.
The Quintessentially Summer Arts party will also be sponsored by DPS Sporting Club Development Company. The event promises a highly memorable, personally affecting and thoroughly different evening - an ideal setting for the launch of Quintessentially Art, Quintessentially's new art advisory service. As well as a host of outstanding entertainment, guests will enjoy music from a top DJ, a delicious array of canapés and of course Champagne Perrier-Jouët - a perfect summer's night.
