Lindsay Mensen does double duty at the Turks & Caicos Sporting Club; she is not only the island naturalist, but also the resident yoga instructor. Lindsay teaches many of her classes on the beach in the early morning as the sun rises slowly creeps over the ocean. Those of you who have been to one of Lindsay’s classes know it’s quite a sight.

Yoga at the Sporting Club is all about helping you forget work, lose the stress and find balance. Beginner and intermediate practitioners of yoga are welcome in Lindsay’s classes. She teaches the Barkan Method from India, which combines elements of Bikram and Vinyasa yoga to facilitate greater flexibility and range of motion. Barkan yogis or yoginis (those who practice yoga) believe that physical, mental and spiritual elements combine, strengthening the body, improving mood and even eliminating stress and anxiety. Asanas (poses) and sun salutations in yoga are designed to help you achieve balance in your mind and body, restoring your systems to optimal health.

The next time you bring a few friends to Ambergris Cay, be sure to bring them down to the beach to experience the peace and tranquility that’s unique to The Sporting Club. They simply have to see this.

Have you enjoyed any of Lindsay’s beach classes? What was it like for you?
